The term wiki family refers to a grouping of wikis that all have something in common. Generally the common trait among a wiki family is the organization that owns the wiki, or simply the domain name. In the case of the KnowledgePit family, both of these are true.
The purpose of the KnowledgePit family is to provide an encyclopedic reference for video games.
